Our Weekly Menu

Well it was a busy weekend and after all the cooking for Thanksgiving it wasn't easy to get in the mood to cook on Sunday for our coming week.  I like to stay away from all stores over this holiday weekend because I hate to fight the crowds so I didn't have much groceries to make any special meals.

I keep busy getting our fall decorations down and putting up our Christmas decorations.

Sorry there will be no new recipes to try this week, just a few fast and easy meals just to get by.

Here's what's cooking.....

Monday - BBQ Steak with French Fries

Tuesday - Pasta with Bolenaise sauce

Wednesday - Southwestern Meatloaf

Thursday - It's my 21st Wedding Anniversay, so I am secretly planing on not cooking. Maybe someone will take me out to dinner tonight to celebrate!

Friday - We will be in New York City celebrating my little girls Sweet 16th Birthday for the weekend.

A grateful weekend....

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is already over and we are headed into the Most Wonderful time of the Year!

We had a wonderful dinner with my husbands family.  Everyone ate lots of Turkey and all was stuffed by the time we left the table.

We decided to take everyone on a surprise road trip to prevent any napping between dinner and dessert.  There is usually lots of nappers after the big meal and my husband wanted to shake things up with his family this year.

So we jumped in the car and headed to the Beach for a holiday photo shoot.  It was a windy afternoon so our hair was a little all over the place for most of us.

It was fun and different.....

Grateful for Family and Fun times,

Thanksgiving Day Preparations underway

Spent Friday pulling out all my holiday recipes, making my shopping list, and heading to the store to get a head start of my preparations.  I wanted to avoid the weekend rush that usually occurs around here when it comes to holiday food shopping.

What about you.... Do you try and get your groceries before the crazy weekend rush?

Today, I woke up around 7am, started making crepes for my daughter and her friend for breakfast.  There was a facebook exchange between the two of them this week where they decided that they missed my crepes and wanted them for breakfast this weekend.  So around 9am I had little visitors for breakfast.

While I was making the crepes, I started my weekly cooking routine getting my week meals ready to go and that includes Thanksgiving day's meal.

My hubs family is joining us this year so I will be cooking for 14.  Cooking a 20 lb Turkey and hoping to have some left overs for weekend meals.

So here's what cooking on the home front this week....

Monday - William Sonoma Black Bean Chili.  I tore this recipe a couple of years ago out of one of the catalogs I picked up in the store.

Tuesday - Cesar Chicken Salad.

Wednesday - Fish Taco's
This is a repeat from a couple of weeks ago.  They where a hit and figured with all we are going to be eating on Thursday, this would be a light meal.

Thursday - Happy Turkey Day!!!!

Our Feast will include:
Turkey
Corn Bread Stuffing
Mom's Traditional Twice Baked Potatoes
Aunt Bert's Cranberry Salad
Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Beans
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Walnut Crumb Pie

Only thing left to do is cook the Turkey and Pies, make the Turkey place holders, set the table and make the antipasti salad.

Oh and I have to share, while sitting on the couch all day, watching me cook, my Hubs make the biggest deposit into my Personal Bank Account when he offered to help me in the kitchen.  I of course immediately gave him a job.  Something to be Thankful for today!!!!!

Buster helped me in the kitchen today too.  He makes sure that he is under my feet all day, just in case something good falls to the floor.  As you can see, he tasted the Cranberry Salad.

Creative Play with Donna Downey

Today I spend my day playing with paints.  Took two classes today back to back with Donna Downey over at Cherry Blossom Studio's.

I learned so much about applying watercolors, acrylics to Canvas and paper.   Donna really pushed our limits today, trying to break us of the fear of letting go and thinking to much into the process.

The 1st class was not as scary for me, as I have been working with Pan Pastels and really like the easy of use.  Also she gave us templates to use so I didn't have to draw something free form.

I absolutely love my three hears canvas.

Second class was Inspirational Journaling.   We received one of Donna's inspirational journals to start our own Inspirational Wednesday.  I have to tell you that this class was very hard.  Donna gave us instructions and gave us just a few minutes between each instruction to complete the instruction.   She started with us picking up a pencil and then told us to put something on the page within 2 minutes.  I froze and ended up just writing "I'm Stuck".   I panicked when I looked around the room and everyone was drawing, writing and not hesitating one bit.  Donna says usually the type A people get stuck here.  She was going to free us by the end of the day. So I went along and created my pages.

My pages are not completed, still want to add some more texture and dimesion but wanted to share what I did in class.

The next page below was a lot of fun, and probably the easiest of the day.  We were told to get up from our table and set across the room at someone elses seat and only take our journal.  We were to use the supply's of the seat we sit in.  I was easier because we were not attached to the supplies so we just use what was in front of us and make the best of it.  Where I sat they didn't have 10 colors of paint, like I had at my seat, but one color (PINK).  Luckly for me it was my favorite color.  She also had lots of scraps of lace, again luck for me...I love lace.  I was in heaven so for 10 minutes which is all the time given, here is what I created.  I can't wait to finish it up.

Well it did get easier, but I definitely need more practice being free and letting go.  Just go with it and not worrying about perfect.

Inspired by color and talent

My adventure at the World Quilt show Florida III this year was amazing!  I walked out of there so inspired and wish could create such beautiful pieces of art as these talented  quilter's across the globe.

Here is a few snap shots I captured during my journey.

One day, I am going to make one of these quilts!

I spend alot of time on the Glorious Applique blog admiring the blocks being created. After reading the story behind this quilt, this women spent over 956 hours with over 1,600 pieces creating this masterpiece. Not sure if I have the time to get this done right now in my life to get this done, so maybe another time.

This quilt won 1st place for Best Hand work.  It was a crazy quilt, with all kinds of sheep and scenery.  The two close ups gives you an idea of the detail in this masterpiece.

Also tried out the long arms and oh would I love to have one of those, so I can finish up a few tops I have waiting to be quilted.  Brought the brochures home to hubs, but he did the usual. Calculated the cost to what I pay others to do for me and said "I would need to make 80 quilts before I could start to get paid back for the cost of the machine".  Why is he so logical some times, just wish he'd just say, "OK Honey.. What ever you want!"

Oh shoot..... I'm DREAMING!!!!!

The shopping this year was not the best.  A lot less vendors with fabrics selections.  However, I did walk out with a bag full of fats to add to my stash and complete some collections I have been gathering for two future quilts projects on my list.

Peppermint Sparkle and Brighten Your Day by Piece o' Cake designs.

And to start doing something a little different that I've wanted to try which is quilting with wool.  I picked up these goodies.  Quick little small projects!

There you go, all inspired and ready to get some quilting done!
